Reasonable rates, good management and a friendly atmosphere in this traditional British-style golf club have made if extremely popular.
It was designed by Gary Player and offers a challenge to players of all levels. The course, set in Paraiso valley and traversed by streams, many of which are hidden, winds round two lakes and through hundreds of trees.
The wide fairways are bordered by heavy rough. The 6th hole is generally regarded as the best on the course, a par-five dogleg left where your drive must steer clear of two well-poitioned bunkers, left and right, and your second shot should be aimed to the left in order to avoid landing in the lake. The green has two tiers.
El Paraiso has a special category of “overseas membership” designed to make it easier to reserve tee times, especially during the busy winter month, ideal for visiting golfers who only spend part of the year here on the Costa.
How to get there: Going towards Estepona, drive past San Pedro Alcantara and off kilometre 167 of the coastal highway get into the traffic lane 300 metres past the Diana shopping center and follow the signs for the golf course and the El paraiso hotel.
