In March and April in Punta Umbría you can enjoy a unique experience where you can sample the most delicious products the sea has to offer. In March a seafood-tasting event with more than 1’700 kilograms of cockles and chirlas awaits you.
For years it takes place on the Plaza 26 de Abril where these dishes will be served for a token price. Only weeks later, over 60,000 people enjoy in the Plaza de Pérez Pastor more than 8,000 kilograms of Huelva Coast prawns in the canopied area which is installed for those purpose.
You also should not miss the procession in August of the local patron saint, the Virgin del Carmen. The most emotional moment is when the Virgen goes onto the water of the river’s mouth from the pier at the Perez Pastor Plaza. At this point of her journey the brightly decorated local fishing boats that accompanied her are waiting for her. With so much hustle and bustle it would be best to stay in the Hotel Barceló, located on the beach and next to the Los Enebrales Nature Park. Enjoy twelve kilometres of fine clean, golden sand as well as the great cultural and sports offer.
Summer is the season for visiting Punta Umbría and resting in one of its camping grounds or in its excellent range of hotels. Punta Umbría also celebrates its patron saint days in honour of the Virgen del Carmen with a marine procession in which the decorated boats sail the river’s mouth in an event with the tang of the sea.
Try its seafood, oven-cooked progy, and cuttlefish with beans or grilled mackerel and take in the atmosphere of this paradisiacal region with leafy pine forest, marine waters, shifting dunes and beaches, twelve kilometres of golden sand beaches and crystalline waters that have made this village a tourist attraction of the first order.
Explore the Los Enebrales Natural Area with pines and junipers and discover the Laguna del Portil, formed by the blocking of streams by shifting dunes, where you can see the largest colonies of chameleons on the entire coast of Huelva.
