Villanueva de las Torres is situated about, 79 kilometres from Granada, in an area known as Hoya de Guadix.
Here lived one of the the first human civilizations of the Iberian Peninsula, as the archaeological remains of Haza del Toril reveal, of the Neolithic-Bronze period, as well as Baños de Alicun, from the late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic period.
