Pampaneira is 72km from Granada´s town, as the road winds in serpentine curves up to the high alpujarran villages, the landscape quickly becomes harsh.
Pampaneira is the first in trio of hamlets overlooking the Poqueira Gorge a massive ravine cut by the Río Poqueira; the town makes a great springboard for climbing to Bubion and Capileira .
The trail to both begins for climbing to Bubión and Capileira and if you lose the trail or start at the wrong point, look towards the church of Bubión and head uphill.
