La Peza´s town has its origins in the Roman period, when it was called Castrum Romano and was off a road that crossed this place where travellers and the troops rested and laid in supplies.
Situated at about 60km from Granada´s town on the northern slope of Sierra Nevada range, La Peza, an old Roman settlement, was also an important Muslim fortress later, but currently only the ruins remain. In its town centre there is a Mudejar church with two towers, one of them of Mudejar style from the 16th century and the other one from the 18th century.
